Out & About

The Lodges make the ideal base for the many outdoor activities available in the Loch Lomond area and there is something for everyone, such as hill-walking, pony-trekking, cycling and fishing. There are also two fine golf courses less than a mile away, and the famous ' West Highland Way', the ultimate challenge to the enthusiastic walker, passes nearby. Balloch and the new visitor centre at Drumkinnin Bay are within a ten minute drive. Loch Lomond itself can be enjoyed via a variety of local vantage points including Ross Priory, Balmaha and Rowardennan.

WALKING

Without a doubt the best way to appreciate the Scottish countryside must be on foot and you will find plenty of choice from right here on your doorstep. Simply follow the pathway through the grounds and up through the wood to the cycle path. In about three quarters of an hour you will have reached ‘The Wayfarers’ a friendly watering hole and restaurant where you will be sure to be warmly welcomed. To return home simply retrace your route or give our excellent local taxi service a call.

Gartocharn village, home of ‘the Dumpling’ or Duncryne Hill, offers a short steep walk leading to breathtaking views over Loch Lomond to the Highland peaks beyond.

From Balmaha climb to the top of Conic hill. This walk follows a section of the West Highland Way- probably the best section in the area for views. The route starts by the visitor centre in Balmaha and climbs fairly steeply to the top of Conic Hill which affords great views over Loch Lomond and north to the first hills of the Highlands .

Why not bag a munro before going home and climb Ben Lomond !There is something for everyone to enjoy in Scotland’s first National Park including low level walking, cycling, sailing, hill walking and for the more adventurous, canyoning.

GO OUTDOORS

The Go Outdoors Initiative brings together 30 small independent businesses, promoting around 40 different activities from walking and cycling, to the adventure sports of cliff jumping and canyoning. All the providers are brought together on a website at www.gosmileoutdoors.co.uk.

EATING OUT

There is an excellent variety of places to eat out locally and Chinese deliveries can be made to your lodge door. The local villages offer food and drink from cafes to fine dining.  The nearby town of Balloch hosts something for every pallette, whether you fancy fish and chips, Chinese, Italian, Indian or traditional fayre.  Don't tell the kids, but you will even find a MacDonalds.  The nearest supermarket is 7 miles away in the town of Balloch . There is a Spar shop in Drymen (1 mile) which is open until 10pm each night.
